Hi, my name is Liane Carmi and I am a former High School ESL teacher, Yoga Instructor, and the owner of this website, www.better-educated.com. If you are anything like me, you like the internet, you love making money, and you love the satisfaction you get from helping others succeed, whether it's in school, at life, or with their health.
Personally, I got sick and tired of working hard and not getting any recognition for it. After spending a LOT of time and money on my Masters degree, I guess I expected a little more. Don't get me wrong - I don't know of any job that is as satisfying as teaching - but us teachers work hard, and sometimes we need a little extra back. A few months ago, I decided to start my own home-based, online business to supplement the income I received as a teacher.
When I decided to become an entrepreneur, I really only had one thing on my mind, and that was making extra money. As it turns out, this part of my business became the least important.
I discovered all sorts of benefits to owning my own home-based business. One of the biggest benefits is not having to answer to anyone else. There have been too many instances in my life when I knew what needed to be done, but could not get it done because of a micromanaging supervisor.
There have also been times when I had to complete useless, time-consuming tasks (i.e., turn in lesson plans in a specific format that is easy for my supervisors to read, but useless to me). In my business, I take time to do what's important; I never have to waste time and energy on the unnecessary.
Before I started, I didn't know much about marketing. I thought that having a home business meant having to sell things to my friends and family. I now know that this is a problem that is prevalent in the MLM industry, but not in more effective online businesses. I will never have to embarrass myself by trying to sell to my family.
I also discovered an incredible learning opportunity. Just the other day, I had a two hour conversation with my father's girlfriend, a former advertising executive, concerning my father's new business as an art psychotherapist. After the conversation, I suddenly realized just how much I had learned about marketing. I was able to suggest so many great ideas to grow my father's business, and I was also able to fully understand his girlfriend's ideas.
Finally, I never realized just how much fun marketing could be. I meet so many successful people who, like teachers, love to help others succeed. I have a whole new community of friends and colleagues who helped me to get better-educated about how much I was really worth to society.
When you combine all those things, the ability to replace your income online is - well - just not that big of a deal.
